Life without social media & sketchbook pages

PROCESSTHOUGHTSPERSONAL PROJECTS

12/26/2025

I don't post regularly on my blog, yet I've been thinking about it a lot, lately.

The reason is my, almost complete, disconnection from social media. To make myself clear before I continue, I didn't delete my accounts but I post rarely and I deleted all apps from my phone. My accounts are still active but more like portfolio pages with the bare minimum of my work.

It all started in 2021 when I deleted my Facebook page and personal account. Then I wrote a blog post about Instagram and although I limited my time there, it drug me down to the scrolling game, again. I started posting regularly (mostly on my photography account) and I saw it growing and gaining attention. So I almost forgot everything I said in that post.

The last 1,5 year, after the explosion of AI slop, all the famous platforms became a nightmare. Not to mention their huge contribution to growing political polarization. Following the Meta socials, every other social or portfolio platform (Pinterest, Behance, Tumblr, etc.) became worse like they were having a "getting worse faster" competition.

I have to confess I tried to migrate to other smaller and more sustainable platforms but it seems that doesn't work for me anymore. Although I love Cara and I am a monthly supporter I don't spend more than a few minutes per month there. I also tried to open an account on Bluesky but I didn't like it's "Twitter"(cringe!) similarity.

After a period of major shifts in my life, I realized that these platforms had a huge impact on my fragile metal health that has been in a "restoration" mode. So, 2 months ago, I just did it without a second thought: I deleted my Instagram and Pinterest apps and never looked back. And yes I saw my mental health rapidly improving from the first week!(I guess most people know the benefits of disconnection from social media, so there is no need to mention them here).

Nowadays I feel more comfortable, posting on my own blog, where I am free to say whatever I want and show what I draw, without waiting for the reward of "likes". Luckily my income doesn't depend on social media and I don't have to worry about the amount of people that are going to see my work.

Without further ado, here are a few pages of my sketchbook:
